About This Place

Miners Pasty Kitchen, nestled in the heart of Munising, MI, offers a true taste of Upper Peninsula tradition through their expertly crafted pastries. This fast food restaurant specializes in hearty, flaky pasties—a beloved comfort food originally made for miners and settlers alike. Their menu is a treasure trove of savory and sweet options, each encapsulating rich flavors wrapped in a golden crust that promises satisfying bites from the very first taste.

The highlight here is undoubtedly their range of pasties, with options like the iconic Original "Yooper" Pasty featuring an authentic blend of beef, pork, and hearty root vegetables such as potato, rutabaga, onion, and carrot. For those who crave a twist on classic comfort, the Thanksgiving Dinner Pasty delivers a soul-warming experience with tender turkey, stuffing, rich gravy, and sweet potato pie—all enveloped in flaky perfection and served alongside a side of cranberries. Vegetarians are well cared for too, with a vibrant Vegetarian Pasty packed with fresh, flavorful vegetables in a vegetable crust that doesn’t compromise on taste.

Breakfast lovers will delight in the Breakfast Pasty, bursting with eggs, sausage, cheese, potatoes, and onions, providing a savory start that’s both filling and energizing. For a hearty lunch or dinner, the Philly Cheese Steak Pasty and Cheeseburger Pasty bring familiar American favorites into a neat, hand-held parcel, boasting perfectly seasoned meats and melted cheese that meld beautifully with their flaky dough.

What truly sets Miners Pasty Kitchen apart is the artisanal attention to detail – the pastry crust is distinctively buttery and crisp, enveloping a perfectly balanced filling. Customers often mention the warmth and care with which each pasty is served, with staff happy to accommodate special needs including gluten-free options, an essential consideration praised by patrons coping with dietary restrictions. Abbigail Rolfe shares an emotional connection to the restaurant, highlighting the thoughtful hospitality and the chance to still enjoy a beloved meal post-celiac diagnosis.

The friendly atmosphere at Miners Pasty Kitchen carries an authentic, homemade ambiance that makes every visit feel special. The owner’s pride is palpable in every bite, transforming simple fast food into a genuine culinary experience. Accompanying these savory delights, the dessert offerings such as the homemade Apple Pie, ice cream cones, and gelato bring a sweet ending to the meal, although some patrons suggest a bit more freshness would elevate the cookies to the standard of their savory counterparts.

Miners Pasty Kitchen doesn’t just serve food—they craft memories. From the miner’s original pasty recipe to inventive specialty pasties like the Reuben wrapped in rye crust with corned beef and Swiss cheese, every bite tells a story of local heritage and culinary passion. They offer a gluten free pasty. I’ve had the gluten free breakfast and normal one. When Ive gone the lady has offered to microwave them because they are frozen most of the time. It’s thoughtful to have an option of something I always loved after my celiac diagnosis. Kind workers every visit. Thanks for allowing me to keep enjoying a favorite meal without hassle.

Stopped in right before closing during my birthday weekend. So glad we did! Best pasty I’ve had probably ever. Customer service was great also. An au ju for the Philly ones might be an idea to try!

What a gem!! We have gluten and dairy free folks in our group and we were still all able to eat a pasty and an icecream! Prices are good and flavor of everything is phenomenal! Highly recommend.

Chicken pasty was absolutely delicious. Well-seasoned, flaky crust. The cookie, however, did not taste fresh at all. And maybe had a hint of air freshener taste to it? I'd 100% come back for some of the specialty pasties, but I'd skip the cookies.

This place has not only amazing pasties but also baked goods and ice cream. Very homemade and authentic feel to the place and the owner obviously takes pride in everything she makes. All served with kindness! Glad we found it before our vacation was over!

Cute walk-in shop that lets the food speak for itself. Best beef pasty we've ever eaten and a darn good bowl of soup. Don't pass this up!

A great family run spot. So friendly. With the vegan and gluten free options there is truly something for everyone! Don’t miss out on the ice cream either. Tons of fun and unique flavors served with a smile.
